Michigan took a big step towards a second straight college football playoff finish with a 45-23 win over Ohio State on Saturday.

At +250 (bet $100 to win $250), the Wolverines are now the second pick at DraftKings Sportsbook to win the national championship behind Georgia. The Buckeyes, on the other hand, have the fifth-best odds with Alabama.

The latest installment in the legendary Michigan-Ohio State rivalry was likely a CFP eliminator. The Buckeyes could still make the semifinals but will need a combination of TCU, USC and maybe even LSU to lose in Week 13.

On the flip side, that result cemented why the Wolverines are not only Georgia’s biggest threat, but perhaps good enough to dethrone the reigning national champions.

The quarterback combo of JJ McCarthy and Cade McNamara clearly wasn’t good enough in last year’s Orange Bowl. The pair finished 18 of 36 together for 237 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Now that he had a full season under his belt as a backup, there was hope that McCarthy could increase the offensive cap as a starter ahead of McNamara. On Saturday, those hopes became a reality.

The second signal caller threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns against Ohio State and hit the Buckeyes deep multiple times.

Especially when Blake Corum can shake off his knee injury Once the bowl season is over, Michigan will have an offensive balance that it lacked in 2021.

If the Wolverines and Bulldogs met for the second year in a row, the latter would almost certainly be the favorites. But Jim Harbaugh’s roster has made positive progress in 2022, at least arguing convincingly to be the No. 2 pick in the playoffs.
