We’ve reached the end of the college football regular season, and now it’s time for the tradition of the annual first weekend of December: Championship Week for every conference across America.
The college football playoff field is also set this weekend, but how much drama that will entail remains to be seen. The top four when the penultimate ranking is announced Tuesday will be Georgia, Michigan, TCU and USC, all four of which are in position to be the CFP semifinal teams if they win their respective conference championship games.
No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Michigan are in an even stronger position. If the Bulldogs (17-point favorite ahead of LSU in the SEC championship) or Wolverines (-16 to Purdue for the Big Ten title) lose, they could still remain in the top four.
On the other hand, if TCU or USC lost, teams like Ohio State and Alabama would re-enter the playoffs. And these teams are much shorter favorites: USC is just 3 points up against Utah in Friday night’s Pac-12 championship, and TCU has -2½ against Kansas State for the Big 12 title.
