ALBANY – The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture will award $70,000 in scholarships to Georgia students pursuing degrees in agriculture, veterinary medicine, family and consumer sciences or a related field, said Laney Wooten, president of the Dougherty County Farm Bureau. recently known.
The GFA awards grants in the following four categories:
Agriculture Scholarship – This scholarship is for high school students planning to attend a college that is part of the Georgia university system, Berry College, Emmanuel College or any other accredited Georgia college/university with an Ag program during of Academics 2023-24 is year to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Family and Consumer Sciences or a related agricultural field. The GFA awards 10 grants of $3,000 each. The top three applicants will receive an additional $1,000.
Agricultural Technical College Scholarship – This scholarship is for students who are enrolled in a Georgia-accredited technical college and have a major in an agricultural field or an agriculture-related field of study such as welding, mechanics, culinary arts, or commercial trucking. Rising College Junior/Senior Agricultural Scholarship – This scholarship is for college students who have at least two semesters left of college to pursue a bachelor’s degree from a unit of the University System of Georgia, Berry College, Emmanuel College or another accredited college/university in Georgia with an agricultural program. Applicants must be majoring in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Family and Consumer Sciences, or an agricultural-related subject. The GFA awards 10 grants of $2,000 each.
UGA College of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship – This scholarship is for students currently enrolled in the UGA Veterinary Medicine program who are majoring in large animal/food animal practice. The GFA is awarding two $5,000 grants.
“I encourage any student who qualifies for a Georgia Foundation for Agriculture scholarship to apply,” Wooten said. “Agriculture offers many exciting career opportunities. Both farmers and consumers depend on the many jobs that agriculture creates, such as mechanics, large veterinarians and food scientists.”
Visit www.gafoundationag.org/scholarships for a list of eligible majors/schools for all scholarships, applications and application instructions. All applications must be submitted online by March 1st. Certificates and letters of recommendation must be submitted online with the application.
The scholarship recipients will be announced in spring 2023. Scholarship checks will be sent to the qualifying college/university the scholarship recipient is attending and will be credited to their school account once the student has verified that they have met all of the scholarship requirements. Scholarships awarded to high school seniors will be awarded for Spring 2024 upon receipt of first semester college transcript showing that the recipient is pursuing an ag-related degree and has at least a 3.0 GPA.
GFA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preparing the next generation of leaders for success in Georgia agriculture. The GFA works with the Georgia Farm Bureau and other Georgia agricultural and educational organizations to fulfill its mission. The foundation provides scholarships for students pursuing a career in agriculture and funds leadership development programs and projects that improve the public’s understanding of agriculture. It coordinates the Georgia Ag Experience, a mobile classroom that introduces third through fifth graders to Georgia’s cutting-edge cultures.
