Georgia rules, Arkansas proves impressive

The SEC’s “Best Conference in College Football” title is officially in jeopardy with the regular season still a week away.

A five-team league that all felt they had a way into the college football playoffs in the first half of the season now has two such teams. Just one of them is a good position to walk this road to glory.

Georgia didn’t look too good in the penultimate game of the season against Kentucky, winning 16-6. But the Bulldogs are still the No. 1 team in the country.

Tennessee’s possible claim as a CFP contender went up in smoke when the Vols gave up more than 60 points to South Carolina.

South. Carolina.

Meanwhile, Ole Miss can no longer claim to have narrowly lost to powerhouses LSU and Alabama when Arkansas defeated the Rebels and earned Bowl eligibility, possibly even helping the program close off-season coaching questions avoid.

Oh, and what SEC list would be complete without Vanderbilt. The Commodores are also one win away from making a bowl game after tearing Florida in two.

At least that’s a hell of a lot of fun. Unless, of course, you’re one of the other 13 teams without a shot. We’re sorry.
