Georgian football finished first in the College Football Playoff rankings in Week 13

The College Football Selection Committee released its fourth ranking Tuesday, and Georgia is ranked No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings for the third straight week. The Dawgs were #3 in the original ranking. With an 11-0 on the season record, Georgia is also No. 1 in both the Coaches and AP polls ahead of week 13. Ohio State, also 11-0 on the year, is No. 2 in the CFP -Ranking.

The next teams are all undefeated. Michigan comes in at No. 3, TCU at No. 4. The Buckeyes will host the Wolverines on November 26th. LSU is No. 5 with two losses and USC is the losing team at No. 6, while Alabama and Clemson are next at No. 7 and No. 8 respectively.

The Kirby Smart crew debuted at No. 1 on the first playoff ladder last season and went on to win the national championship. After losing to Alabama in the SEC championship, Georgia would defeat Michigan in the Orange Bowl CFP semifinals and get revenge on the Crimson Tide in the title game, winning 33-18. In 2020, Georgia debuted at No. 9 on the first CFP rankings. It was the first time since 2016 that the Bulldogs weren’t midway through the playoff race. They debuted at #6 in 2018 and 2019.

In 2017, UGA opened at No. 1 with an unbeaten record. It was there the following week after a home win against South Carolina, but fell two weeks later after a loss in Auburn. Georgia would beat Auburn 28-7 in the 2017 SEC Championship game and earn their ticket to the College Football Playoffs. He defeated Oklahoma in the CFP semifinals at the Rose Bowl and lost to Alabama in the National Championship game. Georgia’s playoff hopes ended in the SEC championship game in each of the next two years. Alabama defeated UGA 35-28 in 2018 and LSU, eventual national champions, defeated the Bulldogs 37-10. Smart and company four more games in the 2021 regular season.

Georgia will play its final regular-season game at home against Georgia Tech this Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for Noon ET on ESPN. Georgia is currently a 35.5-point home favorite over Georgia Tech, with ESPN analysis giving the Dawgs a 98.7 percent chance of winning the last game of the regular season.
