James Madison’s Centeio, Troy’s Steward and Georgia Southern’s Raynor receive Sun Belt Weekly Awards

NEW ORLEANS – James Madison’s Todd Centeio, Troy’s Reddy Steward and Georgia Southern’s Alex Raynor receive weekly Sun Belt football awards after making significant contributions to team wins during the final weekend of the regular season.

Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Todd Centeio, James Madison
(Gr., QB – West Palm Beach, Fla.)

Dukes grad student quarterback Todd Centeio led James Madison to a 47-7 win over No. 23/23 Coastal Carolina to cap an 8-3 year in his inaugural season at the Sun Belt and the FBS. The West Palm Beach, Fla. native contributed five touchdowns in the win. Centeio completed 17 of 32 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns while adding 25 yards and a point in ground play. The quarterback led the Dukes to 44 unanswered points in the statement win, en route to his fourth Sun Belt Football Offensive Player of the Week nod of the season.

 

Football Defensive Player of the Week

Reddy Steward, Troy
(Jr., DB – Decatur, Ala.)

Trojans junior defenseman Reddy Steward hit two passes to help Troy in a 48-19 win over Arkansas State. The win secured the Trojans the Sun Belt West Division title and secured staging rights to the Sun Belt Football Championship. The product from Decatur, Ala., returned his first interception 67 yards for a touchdown to extend Troy’s lead in the fourth quarter and finished the game 4:25 with his second pick to play. Steward also registered two tackles and a broken pass in the end zone in a full defensive effort.

 

Football Special Teams Player of the Week

Alex Raynor, Georgia Southern
(RS Jr., K – Kennesaw, Georgia)

Eagles redshirt junior kicker Alex Raynor took all of his kicks — six extra points and a 35-yard field goal — in a 51-48 double overtime win over App State. The win secured Georgia Southern bowl eligibility for the fourth time in five seasons. The Kennesaw, Georgia native made nine points and also had a three-yard rush on a fake field goal that led to an Eagles touchdown in the third quarter. Raynor is 16-to-18 on field goal attempts and 48-to-49 on extra points this season and is tied for the Sun Belt lead with 96 points scored.
