Save the dates for public holiday shipping to central Georgia

The United States Postal Service, UPS and FedEx — the country’s three largest carriers — recently released this year’s holiday shipping deadlines.

MACON, Georgia — If you’re playing Santa this holiday season, be sure to give his elves plenty of lead time. That is why the post office and shipping companies announce the most important dates for the timely delivery of your parcels.

Santa Claus can be delivering gifts all over the world in no time, but the rest of us might need to plan.

The National Retail Federation predicts holiday spending could hit as much as $960 billion between November and December, but if you’re writing a list and double-checking it, be sure to add holiday shipping deadlines.

“I really don’t ship much, but when I do ship, I haven’t had a problem with it,” Cantrell told Hollingsworth.

The United States Postal Service, UPS and FedEx — the country’s three largest carriers — recently released this year’s holiday shipping deadlines. For example, if you want to send Christmas gifts and cards, USPS recommends mailing them by December 17, 19, or 23, depending on what class mail you’re sending, but Cantrell Hollingsworth says it’s best to go early.

“I’m trying to have mine before the first of December. No waiting at all,” Hollingsworth continued.

Greg White of the Postal Service says Christmas shopping will start this year.

“The Postal Service continues to prepare for the holiday season, including investments and improvements in operational precision related to staffing. We are actively hiring 20,000 seasonal workers,” he said.

In 2020, carriers reached capacity by turning over their excess packages to the U.S. Postal Service when more than a third of the Postal Service’s first-class mail was delayed for Christmas.

“We are no longer the organization we were two years ago during the challenging 2020 peak season amid a global pandemic. Although the headwinds continue, we are now focused on precision,” said White.
