It was reported Sunday night that Georgia Tech had reached a deal with Tulane head coach Willie Fritz to be the next head coach.
However, it wasn’t long before the report was refuted and later retracted.
Fritz met with the media ahead of Tulane’s Conference Championship matchup today and he was asked about the reports that have linked him to being Georgia Tech’s head coach. Here’s what Fritz had to say:
“I spoke to the team about this and obviously the first report resonates more than the secondary report, but I’m Tulane’s head football coach, I’m very proud to be Tulane’s head coach and we look forward to the ball game on.” Saturday and that’s what I told our boys when I visited them this morning. So… I don’t want to talk about things like that, I want to talk about the ball game.
Here’s the video of Fritz’s comments today:
Tulane plays UCF in this weekend’s AAC Championship Game and the winner of that game will likely represent the group of five conferences in the New Years Six Bowl Game, which would be the Cotton Bowl this season. ESPN’s bowl projections currently show Tulane Penn State playing in the Cotton Bowl.
Coaching searches can be unpredictable and rumors about that coaching job are sure to be circulating this week.
