HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The Pugliese family has been making authentic Italian sausages for nearly 200 years, beginning in Italy and ending in central Pennsylvania.
Pugliese Brother’s Authentic Italian Gourmet Sausage opened in Spring 2016 and is run by three brothers – Bob, Rich and John Pugliese. The store offers a variety of authentic imported goods from Italy, Greece and Philadelphia. According to the Pugliese Brothers, they offer all kinds of quality products to their customers, such as:
- hot dog
This family’s sausage-making tradition can be traced back to the early 1800s, beginning in Italy and ending in Steelton Pa., where Bob and Rich’s uncle and grandfather opened grocery stores under the Pugliese name. According to Bob Pugliese, this gave the family a platform to sell their high-quality sausages.
During this time, when Rich was a young boy, the brother’s grandfather began teaching Rich the process of making sausage – starting with setting Rich on his lap and slowly teaching him the entire process. Ultimately, the long-standing family tradition is passed on. These processes and training were eventually passed down to the now 8th generation of the Pugliese family – Rich Pugliese’s children.
“Both of my sons made sausage, and they actually know how to make sausage,” said Rich Pugliese. “So the next generation in my house is ready for the future.”
The Pugliese brothers are currently gearing up for their biggest day of the year – Small Business Saturday. According to Bob Pugliese, the store will offer customers a wide range of deals and specials, with great deals like:
- Multiple product samples (pasta, meat, cheese, etc.)
- door prices
- Gift baskets (mini, small, medium and large)
- bean pots
- Olive Oil Gift Duos
- Clearance on sausage rolls, tortellini soups and more
“We hope — not just for us, but for other small businesses, we hope that people will come out and support small businesses,” Rich Pugliese said.
Pugliese Brother’s Authentic Italian Gourmet Sausage is located at Brandywine Plaza at 2241 Paxton Church Rd., Harrisburg. The Italian gourmet shop is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
