HOW IT HAPPENED:
Louisville (5-2) started the night efficiently, shooting 60% from the field in the first quarter. Adriana Shipp-Davis amassed six points in the opening frame for Longwood (1-4) after a hard one finish inside and a step-back three-pointer. The Lancers took it on defensively in the second quarter, containing the Cardinals 42% of the field. Longwood scored ten points in both the first and second quarters, leading to a 54-20 lead in Louisville going into the dressing room.
Shipp-Davis opened the scoring in the second half after scoring after a Lancers first defensive stop. While Louisville couldn’t repeat their efficiency from the first quarter, the Cardinals stayed solid offensively and played excellent defense. The Cardinals were able to extend their lead in the second half due to continued execution at both ends of the floor and their consistent play would lead to victory.
WHAT YOU SAID:
“I thought we fought hard, our goal was to play for forty minutes and I thought we did a good job with that,” said the head coach Erika Lang Montgomery on the loss. “We really need to rebound better…we need to figure out how to get more physical and gritty on the boards.”
“You can’t simulate the size and speed of Louisville or Virginia Tech in practice, so this was a great build for us to get ready for Virginia Tech,” Lang-Montgomery said of the team’s upcoming fight against the Hokies.
