Since the announcement of The Virginia’s renovation, there have been questions as to whether theater will be part of the numerous performances that have graced the stage since July 2022. In association with The Virginia and title sponsor SPEDA, Flashback Theater Co. will perform the theatre Miracles on 34th Street brought to life with local actors in the newly renovated event space. Audiences will see this classic tale brought to life once again in the historic cinema space.

The Virginia was built by TE Jasper in 1922 and named after his daughter. It remained open until 1994, when it closed its doors and fell into disrepair. After years of preservation by Downtown Development, The Virginia received the facelift it deserved after the City of Somerset purchased the building and redesigned it as a downtown performance and events space.

Miracles on 34th Street tells the story of Kris Kringle, a kindly old man who was recently discharged from a hospital because he “believed he was Santa Claus”. After an incident with her current “Santa Claus,” Kris is hired at Macy’s department store on 34th Street in New York City, where he goes against the script by suggesting parents buy toys at other stores. A courtroom drama that has become a Christmas classic, argues about Santa’s true identity and the power of believing in miracles.

A holiday event to feel good, Miracles on 34th Street will be an excellent theatrical production that families can attend together. The show lasts approximately one hour and forty-five minutes, including a 15-minute intermission, and is suitable for ages 6 and up. Discounts can be purchased at the venue.
