After Virginia canceled the season finale against Virginia Tech, the Hokies’ 2022 season officially ended with a win over Liberty last weekend. With the season officially over, it’s time to take a look at who made and who didn’t play in the 2022 Recruiting Class.
Virginia Tech signed a total of 24 players during the 2022 recruitment cycle, 22 of whom were picked into the 2022 season on the Virginia Tech roster.
Five of the freshmen, Bryce Duke, Keshawn Burgos, Mansoor Delane, Daequan Wright and Tucker Holloway, have officially crossed the four-game threshold and officially burned their redshirts, while several other members of the true freshman class received game representatives this fall. Holloway, a wide receiver and punt returner, burned his red shirt during the Hokies’ win over Liberty by playing in his fifth game of the season.
Offensive lineman Braelin Moore and tight end Harrison Saint Germain played in four games throughout the season and retained their redshirt status.
Against Liberty, seven freshmen saw play representatives: Tucker Holloway, Kyree Moston, Daequan Wright, Bryce Duke, Keyshawn Burgos, Xavier Chaplin and John Love. Walk-on Latrell Sutton also got his first replays of the season in the win over the Flames.
Under current NCAA statutes, a player can play in up to four games while retaining redshirt eligibility. Once a player plays in five or more games, they have officially burned their 2022 red shirt.
